Each PD Approval Committee aims to address unique professional development opportunities for all faculty in respective Schools, Centres, and Departments.

The committees review funding applications and approve the allocation of funding based on the priorities, criteria, and available funds.

Each Professional Development Approval Committee intends to ensure the fair and transparent management of PD opportunities for faculty and that selected PD opportunities align with:

  • The strategic vision and mission of the College.
  • The vision and pathways laid by the College’s Vision 2020.
  • The strategic vision of each department of the College.

Each PD Approval Committee has 8 Primary Responsibilities

  • Make recommendations to the Dean about priorities and criteria by which applications for PD funding are allocated to faculty within the respective School, Centre or Department.
  • Develop or edit an application/template to be used by faculty in the application process.
  • Review applications for PD funding and allocate funding based on approved priorities, criteria, and available funding.
  • Determine the frequency and process for applications to the PD Committee.
  • Promptly communicate to the faculty the results of its deliberations and awarding of funding.
  • Keep meeting minutes and documentation for an appropriate period.
  • Solicit input from faculty regarding the PD funding allocation and approval process.
  • Keep all deliberations and faculty personal information confidential.

Allocation of Professional Development opportunities is of great importance to all faculty. Each PD Approval Committee intends to foster an engaged, responsive, and purposeful approach to faculty development.

Standing Members

The voting members of each PD Approval Committee consists of the following:

  1. The Dean or Director as chair.
  2. Two faculty members (continuous) elected by their peers.

A voting member may be of any employment status (continuous, temporary, casual).

Elected Members shall

  1. Be elected by all faculty members of a Centre, School, or Department.
  2. Serve on a PD Approval Committee for two consecutive years.

The Professional Affairs Committee (PAC) is responsible for facilitating these elections. Voting will be completed through a digital process this year.

  • 3+ years of experience as a faculty member at the College.
  • Currently a continuous or temporary faculty member at the College.
  • Refined ability to analyze and make fair decisions based on various and diverse input.
  • Willingness and ability to make decisions.
  • Approachable and able to listen effectively to faculty concerns regarding professional development.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Elected Members will require the following skills and experience

  • 3+ years of experience as a faculty member at the College.
  • Currently a continuous or temporary faculty member at the College.

Committee Meeting Frequency

Each Committee will generally meet two times per semester during the Fall and Winter semesters and may meet more frequently as determined by the Committee.

The collective of PD Approval Committees will meet twice per academic year.

Committee Reporting Structure

Each PD Committee shall provide timely updates to the School, Centre, or Department, which summarizes the work of the Committee.
