Union dues election for fiscal year 2025/26
Hello BVCFA Members,
As you may know, the Government of Alberta passed legislation in 2020 (Bill 32 – Restoring Balance in Alberta’s Workplaces Act) that requires unions to categorize their budgeted expenses into “core” and “non-core” activities. The legislation also requires unions to give members the option to opt in or out of funding any “non-core” activities through an annual dues election process.
After reviewing our projected spending for the 2025/26 fiscal year, we’ve determined that none of the dues collected will be allocated to “non-core” activities as defined in the legislation.
As a result, a union dues election is again not required.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
